i've seen this video cropping up a lot lately. i'm posting it because i agree wholeheartedly with the band's sentiments. i have long been opposed to attitudes towards immigration to this country. i believe that every human has the right to a high standard of living and it is pure chance what country one is born a citizen of. i have no problem with people of other nations emigrating to this country. it's our longest tradition. nationalism is a sentiment that has no place in today's global community.

"for the love of god" by damien hirst
today in an effort to become more intimate with the works of spanish modern painter joan miro, i was collecting images from google images and art blogs to create a slideshow for my computer background, giving me a chance to have a good look at a number of his paintings, regularly.
as i went through the art blogs, i happened across this amazing item, created by artist damien hirst, that is made of platinum and real diamonds.
this is the description:
LONDON - JUNE 1: In this handout image provided by Courtesy Science Ltd and Jay Jopling/ White Cube (London), Artist Damien Hirst's platinum cast of a human skull is shown covered with 8,601 ethically sourced diamonds and is estimated to be worth over ?50 million. Titled 'For the Love of God', the original skull was examined by forensic experts, who concluded that it was male, probably of European origin and about 35 years old at the time of death. Radiocarbon analysis suggests that he lived some time between 1720 and 1810. (Photo by Prudence Cuming Associates Ltd via Getty Images)

my blog banner
does anyone paint abstract pieces with watercolors?
i was looking at the banner at the top of this page, thinking that i would like to create something in that vein, again. the painting was done with crayola markers that are brushes with a water-based ink in them. you use them as you would a paint brush. they have a wonderful translucence.
that led me to think about my question. as far as i can remember, which sometimes isn't very far!, i've never seen an abstract painting that was done in watercolors. on the other hand, i used to have a paul klee print that sort of had that look to it. this is why i need to take art classes--i don't know technique. i'm sure oils could be thinned to being translucent, but of course it wouldn't be the same.
when i get paid i'm going to buy some water color paints and a couple brushes and paper!

very first post EVAR!!!
i started writing this and tried to be very deep and mysterious and came off sounding amazingly pompous and boring! i try to show in my photos and art that i have a big streak of whimsy. that's a quality i'd like to celebrate! it's such a pleasure to get high off your imagination and trip yourself out with your own humor. crack yourself up, you know that's the funniest thing ever! most of the time we need a little help and this is one of my favorite sources of a healthy daily hysterical crack up:
